Quick Pix: Valentine's Day

See how Jayhawk Student-Athletes celebrate Valentine's Day.

Men's golfers decorate Valentine's Day cards at a Student-Athlete Advisory Committee meeting. Student-athletes will deliver the cards to a local retirement center and children's hospital.

More student-athletes from football, volleyball and rowing join in on the decorating at SAAC.

For the second year, the Rowing team has exchanged Valentines between the coaches, rowers, and staff. We all walk away with an assortment of 40 baked goodies, candy, fruit snacks, and awesome snacks. It definitely beats any elementary school Valentine's Day exchange!

Softball player Alex Jones shows off her custom Jayhawk Valentine's Day card.

Flash Mob Experience

I went to a SAAC meeting on January 31 and was informed about a bunch of students doing a flash mob dance at the KU vs Mizzou game. I wanted to do it because it guaranteed at good seat at the game and Jeff Bell and I looked what a flash mob was on YouTube and we thought that it looked really fun. We had 3 practices that lasted about an hour each and we got pizza after each time. They told us in the last practice that we were going to be performing at the under 8 media timeout and that they had informed ESPN and our camera crews that we were going to do this at that time. We got to go into the game early that day and get in our seats while the first camping groups were coming in. I had a great time and I think that the crowd really enjoyed it as well. I think that someone should put another one of these together at some point!

Jayrock 2011

The 6th Annual Student Athlete "Jayrock" show was a hit again this year! It was a pleasure having Darrel Stuckey, former KU football player and current San Diego Chargers player, back on campus to entertain the crowd as MC! The volleyball team took first place with their live “dancing puppet show”. Runner up of Jayrock was swim and dive who did an awesome performance with glow sticks, so creative! Third place went to the softball team with their singing and dancing act "It's a College Life" set to the beat of Annie's/Jay-Z's "It's a Hard Knock Life." All the teams that participated showed how much fun and talent our athletic teams at the University of Kansas have!
